Wellness Day: How to Nurture Yourself While Grieving

Grieving the death of a loved one is a complex journey. It is a unique process for every individual, with no easy prescribed path or timetable to follow. How we feel, what the loss means to us, and the way we choose to cope with our grief differs for each of us. The journey we face after the death of a loved one can be very difficult and stressful. This one-day seminar, held annually in the fall, is designed to give attendees an opportunity to learn new coping skills, to better understand their feelings and to come away with a renewed sense of hope for the future. The seminar includes speakers and workshops. A nominal fee covers the cost of a continental breakfast, a buffet lunch and materials.

Spring Retreat

The annual retreat is held at Gramercy Mansion in Stevenson, Maryland. It is a day of self care and includes meditation, writing, small group sharing, creative expression and a contemplative walk.

Memorial Services

Memorial services are held throughout the year at various locations within the Gilchrist Hospice Care service area to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have recently died. The services are generally held on Sundays from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., with light refreshments following the service.

Pediatric Memorial Service

Held annually each spring, the pediatric memorial service offers a gentle remembrance and celebration of the lives of the youngest patients who have died during the past few years – both the infants, children, teens and young adults cared for through the Gilchrist Kids pediatric hospice program as well as the children of community families who have sought out Gilchrist’s Counseling & Support services. The beautiful service features readings, musical selections and a photo tribute.
