What is the Gilchrist Global Partnership?
Gilchrist Services and Nkoaranga Lutheran Hospital’s Hospice and Palliative Care program in Tanzania were first linked as partners in 2009, with a goal for Gilchrist to support Nkoaranga in the provision of quality, compassionate end of life care. The partnership is sponsored by Global Partners in Care, which is part of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.

What are Nkoaranga’s needs?
Nkoaranga’s program serves more than 900 patients daily in the mountainside villages surrounding the Arusha Region of Tanzania with a handful of staff members and several dozen volunteers. More than 95 percent of their patients suffer from HIV/AIDS. In March 2011, when the program lost its initial U.S. government-sponsored funding, Gilchrist agreed to step in and committed to paying the costs of their bare-bones program for the foreseeable future to ensure that this valuable resource would remain available to so many who need their help.

How is the Nkoaranga program funded?
The program is funded exclusively through fund-raising by Gilchrist Hospice Care and Greater Baltimore Medical Center staff and volunteers.
